How can individual experience of local environments inform design choices?
Nike asked us to advise and judge during their London On Air workshop series. On Air was an initiative by Nike to develop a pair of Air Max trainers from six cities across the world.
We mentored participants between the ages of 16-25 on material choices for the redesign of their chosen Nike Air trainer. Culture was used as a navigational tool that would enable the material, colour and embellishment choices to tell the narrative of their chosen London memory. Tapping into the material culture of the city informed choices which enabled the shoe to tell the individual experience of its designer.
At the end of each day mentors would create a shortlist of participants. After three days of workshops one winner was selected from each city. London’s winning entry was by Jasmine Lasode who based her Air Max on a first date in Primrose Hill.
